Trump needs to go to prison for this. Every Senator and representative who promoted the election fraud conspiracy theories that led to this attempted coup attempt needs to go to prison for this.
If they do not, then we will send a message to the Republicans that they can try to overthrow the government without consequence. Republicans will then keep stoking the fires of division until we get coup attempt after coup attempt. Eventually, one of them will be successful.
In other words, the survival of the republic depends on DC moderate Democrats growing a spine and applying the law to powerful Republican politicians.
We are all doomed.
Democrats will not grow a spine overnight, and Republican politicians will simply carry on as they have, making things worse and worse until America becomes a fascist dictatorship. A nuclear-armed fascist dictatorship.
Ted Cruz and the other Republican legislators will continue spreading false conspiracy theories. The conservative safe space media will help them spread those conspiracy theories. The Republican voters will get angrier and angrier until these attempts to overthrow the government becomes as regular as mass shootings. Remember when mass shootings were rare?

Those 147 Republican politicians who voted to overturn the election need to go to prison.
