As I mentioned in a previous post, when the BLM anti-murder protests were going on, we had an endless parade of journalists from the mainstream media arguing that the misconduct of a few protesters had undermined their cause.
We saw a similar parade of African-American leaders getting on TV and warn that protester misconduct was "undermining the cause." Over and over again, we saw national and local media and public figures announce that the misconduct of a tiny portion of the anti-murder protesters was undermining the cause.
As I mentioned in that previous post, I do not think protester behavior is at all related to the justness of the cause. No amount of vandalism or looting would cause murder to switch from being wrong to being acceptable. No matter how well or poorly the protesters behaved, murder is still wrong, and the cause is still just. The cause being protested is just or unjust on its own merits regardless of how protesters or rioters behave.
Compare and Contrast
I would like to contrast reactions to the anti-murder protests with the coverage of the recent attempt by Republican terrorists to overthrow the United States government.
We have not seen an endless parade of national and local journalists announcing that Republicans had undermined their own cause.
Not one person got on TV and announced that wanting lower taxes is no longer a valid concern because Republicans tried to overthrow the government. Not one person got on TV and announced that wanting less regulation is no longer a just cause because Republicans murdered a cop while trying to overthrow the United States government.
Out of all the ink spilled on the coup attempt that happened on January 6, I don't recall a single op-ed writer lamenting the fact that the conservative cause was now unjust because of the misbehavior of the terrorists who tried to overthrow the government.
The Republicans did something far worse than any BLM protesters, and yet not one person in the mainstream media has insisted that their cause is now unjust as they did with BLM protesters. Despite the fact that white Republican terrorists did something far worse, the mainstream media clearly expects white Republicans to pay far less of a price in public opinion than the anti-murder protesters did (never mind that much of the vandalism and looting was done by provocateurs posing as BLM protesters, some even in blackface).
The mainstream media is inherently racist. White terrorists who try to overthrow the government are treated with far greater deference than African-American protesters who are simply begging for their lives.
The deferential treatment of the coup leaders by the mainstream media has all but turned America into the Weimar Republic, inviting further coup attempts in the future, but it still torques my 'nards that the media is so obviously biased in how they cover conservatives. No matter how badly the conservatives behave, they can always count on deferential treatment from the "liberal" mainstream media.
