Masks and Freedom

Dear conservatives, We Americans learn about our rights and civil liberties as teenagers. We are taught that your freedom ends at the tip of your nose. That is to say, your freedoms simply stop existing the moment they take away rights from someone else. Once you start taking rights away from someone else, you are doing the opposite of freedom.

In this case, you would normally have the right to not wear a mask in public because doing so does not take anything away from other people. But during a pandemic, not wearing a mask in public takes away the rights of other people to not die. The right to not be killed is one of the pre-eminent rights we Americans have.

This is the problem you conservatives have with understanding our American rights and values. Other people also have rights, not just you. The right of other people to not die is more important than your right to not wear a mask, hence, you do not have the right to not wear a mask in public during a pandemic.

I get that our American ways are strange and confusing to you, but as long as you are in our country, I expect you to respect our values. If you will not, then you should return to your own country because you don't belong in this one.

Sincerely, An American
